Communication is a pretty important aspect of study abroad that usually gets overlooked. Don’t wait until you’re sitting in your room with no way to call your parents back home, and no way to get in touch with those kids you just met in class to finally start looking at ways to keep in contact. Do yourself a favor and look into cell phones/ Skype/ instant message/ etc. well in advance because once you leave the States (or where ever you’re from) there is a very good possibility your phone won’t work where you’re going.
(Since mobile plans change from country to country, not all of this information will be relevant as I will be referring specifically to the UK. If you are not going to school in the UK keep reading! You never know, you may find some part of this useful anyways) Read the rest of this entry
The Ultimate Study Abroad Packing List
I know students (and the general traveling population) want a detailed packing list, and we all get annoyed when someone says “it’s common sense”. So I’ve put together everything I thought you could possibly want or need when you study/ travel abroad. (I’ve tried to adapt it for everyone, both guys and girls.) I wouldn’t expect you to pack everything below, so use your own discretion. At least with this list in front of you, you won’t forget something you really wanted to bring. If you’re wondering how you’re going to fit your life into two suitcases, check out my appropriately titled post, “How To Fit Your Life Into Two Suitcases“. Feel free to print out both posts and use them as your complete guide on how to pack when your studying abroad! Read the rest of this entry

So I’ve been back from Dublin (and Scotland for that matter) for a while now, and it’s about time for another one of my
expert hostel reviews. I stayed in The Kinlay House Dublin, and while it’s not up to the level of Wombat’s (the standard by which I will forever judge every other hostel), it was definitely up there.

I'm a 23 year old college grad, and during my junior year abroad in Scotland, I came to the realization that it's hard to know what you want to do in this world if you've never seen it. With that in mind, I decided to study abroad again during the 2011-12 academic year, this time in Beijing, China. Read more
